In Nepal, Christmas is a season of light, joy, and In Nepal, Christmas is a season of light, joy, and sharing the hope of Christ, both at home and in the church.

“During Christmas time, all the Christian’s houses will be full of lights. We exchange gifts. Sometimes we give surprise gifts. (Sometimes I buy surprise gift to Jandi*. She never knows what I'm going to buy!) We cook roti. A kind of local bread. Sometimes people started having feasts at home, even 15 days before Christmas. They invite their relatives or friends, and sometimes the neighboring people.

Then we have a Christmas celebration in the church. We ask all our believers to invite their neighbors, their relatives, their friends, their co-workers. Then they bring them to the church, and we present a Christmas program they enjoy, and we share Christmas messages to them, and we give some kind of small gifts to them.” -Shalva* and Jandi*
In a time of great division in our world, we are t In a time of great division in our world, we are thankful for simple but important gestures of support and security from Muslim leaders as Christians come together to celebrate Jesus’ birth.

“The Bangladesh government…this interim government, they wanted to see Christian people are celebrating the Christmas…they are saying that those with the church building - brick building - they wanted to provide us some rice [for the celebration]. So this rice can be used for those who have the brick building church. We have no [church building] like that, so we are not getting this. But there is joyful news that one of our previous government parliamentary members who is a Muslim, but loves us very much - he wanted to visit us. Every year he offers a cake, like as a Christmas cake. So he will provide the Christmas cake on 24th. So it will be celebrated over there, among our tribal people. And this man will join them.” ~ Pastor Darpan*

Bangladesh currently has an interim government, following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August of 2024. The country will hold elections in February. Following a year of increased extremist attacks on minorities, Christians are understandably concerned about their safety when worshipping at Christmas. But Pastor Darpan explains how the government is responding:

“We are feeling some insecurity. In Dhaka city, in previous years the police people sent security to our church and take care of us on the 25th of December and on New Year. This year, mainly the Christian people are doubtful [about the interim government]. So the Cardinal said [to the government] that ‘we are feeling insecure, so we need the security.’ So Bangladesh government now… I saw that they [will] provide us the securities like this. They will provide it for Christmas and New Year. For those two days.”

“[Last year] we celebrated our Christmas in one picnic spot where we got to share good news and show them the concern towards nature in cleaning the surroundings. Our next outreach Christmas was at a cell group where we sang carols and hosted a meal for the neighbours, where they saw the love of Christ and a peaceful kind of celebration.”
In Bangladesh, Christmas with Darpan* is a vibrant In Bangladesh, Christmas with Darpan* is a vibrant celebration of Christ’s love, shared through hospitality, prayer, and community outreach.

“Preparation for Christmas begins from a week before with the wearing of new clothes and with good food. Relatives will have come to visit. There are a lot of traditional foods to prepare and serve among the family members including the neighbors’ families, sharing the Christmas joy to all. Priority goes to those who are poorer and sick, to share the love of Christ.

The church prays for a new vision for the upcoming year. We hold a child gathering and gift exchange, a Christian outreach rally among the village. This will be a joyful session and pastors will visit every home sharing Christmas greetings and taking local prepared cakes, and some rice pudding.”

For the ministry leaders throughout South Asia and For the ministry leaders throughout South Asia and Myanmar, Christmas is not only a time to celebrate, but also an opportunity to share the hope of the Gospel with their communities.

“Throughout the Christmas season, we held outreach meetings at various crossroads. On the eve of Christmas, we presented the message of Christ's birth and the redemption that comes with it. We held a Christmas outreach gathering over three days in three separate locations. In addition, we hosted a Christmas stage show at our location in the main market. We, together with our church members, presented the gospel via music, dance, and miming, as well as the Christmas gospel message with the people.” ~Manu*, Andaman Islands
We are celebrating with Priya and her Gypsy and Tr We are celebrating with Priya and her Gypsy and Tribal Empowerment (GATE) ministry this week:

“Good news! There has been an official announcement that [a community] of gypsy families will receive their Patta papers [land ownership papers] from the Honourable Chief Minister this coming Saturday. All 148 families are included. This has been a long-time dream for us, and now it’s finally coming true. I thank God for all His strength and blessings upon our tribal families. I am truly happy and grateful to serve as a minister for our people. I will be taking some of our gypsy families to the function on Saturday. Please keep us in your prayers and pray that everything goes smoothly.”
Christmas with Pastor Thang* in Myanmar “We deco Christmas with Pastor Thang* in Myanmar

“We decorate our house, and we have a lot of Christmas singing. There's a song called “I miss my home during Christmas.” [The children] love to sing it, because they are away from home. I remember in the past, when things were more open, carol singing in the car. Sometimes the police stop us, and they ask, where are you going? If we say, for carol singing or Christmas, they say, just go, go. Even though they don't believe about Jesus Christ, they also, I think, are overwhelmed by the season. They give gifts to one another, even though they are not Christian. So we have a lot of influence over the Buddhist culture [at Christmas]. Last year, we gave rice with a Christmas message. We have more opportunities in terms of sharing the gospel during Christmas.

For the ministry partners in Myanmar, as we all celebrate in different ways - some might be in small numbers, some might be in big numbers - pray that this Christmas season be a chance of joy. When they have peace, the trials, sorrow, sadness, difficulties, this will be a real joy as we celebrate Christmas.”

I want to share some recent examples of this. Because our leaders are so consistent in serving, the only way I could narrow this down was to share one example each of serving the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, those needing clothes, the sick, and those in prison." - Kate
