Nepal-Tibet Flood Response

Local leaders are responding after devastating flooding in northern Nepal.

Flash flooding and landslides have damaged communities across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts. Harvest Bridge-supported leaders are helping provide clean water, food, and practical relief through trusted local networks.

What happened

On August 26, 2026, flash flooding and landslides devastated communities in northern Nepal near the Nepal-Tibet border. Homes and settlements along riverbanks were swept away. Roads, bridges, markets, schools, security facilities, and other infrastructure were badly damaged.

One early report described families waiting on a hillside after their community was devastated.

“What will we feed the small children? How will we protect them? There is nothing. We are living on running water.”

More water filters are being coordinated.

Additional water filters are being coordinated for communities farther inside the affected area. Some roads were washed away, so volunteers and porters may need several days to carry supplies into places vehicles can no longer reach.

Local leaders began responding immediately.

Harvest Bridge first sent emergency funds so Shalva* and other local leaders could respond with whatever was most needed on the ground. As more information came in, the response focused on practical survival needs and clean water.

Shalva* explained the first priorities simply:

“First of all their life matters, food water, and clothing. They lost everything and they have nothing except the clothes they are wearing.” —Shalva*

Clean water is one of the most urgent needs.

Through Wine To Water, the team received two boxes of Drop filters — 100 filters total — and five volunteers were trained to distribute and teach families how to use them.

Shalva* shared that the filters are in high demand because many natural water sources were damaged. Additional filters may be needed for families in harder-to-reach areas.

Reaching interior areas will take time and stamina.

Some affected communities are no longer reachable by road. Shalva* described future distributions requiring vehicle travel, walking, and porters because floodwaters washed away long stretches of road.

“There is no motorable road now because the flood had taken away 45 kilometres black topped road. Our volunteers and others need to walk and it takes at least 7/8 days for to and fro of total distribution time.” —Shalva*
