June 2026
From the beginning of Harvest Bridge’s
history, we have partnered with local missionaries on various children’s ministries.
Our partners’ work in this area contributes to community development and poverty reduction by investing in the education and holistic flourishing of children and their families, and it advances God’s
kingdom through proclamation and demonstration of the Gospel to the next generation. Children are assisted based on need, not based on their religious, ethnic, caste, or other identities.
2025 Statistics
Just like all of our work, our children’s ministry is diverse. Some statistics from 2025 illustrate this!
16 Teenagers were helped to escape kidnapping and conscription by the military in Myanmar
271 Children were rescued from situations where they were likely to become victims of human trafficking in Bangladesh
300 Children of persecuted pastors received Christmas gifts in Bhutan
435 Children attended VBS programs in the Andaman Islands
523 Menstrual kits distributed to girls in Nepal
775 Children received after-school tutoring in India
Child & Family Sponsorship
One of our main children’s ministries is Child & Family Sponsorship.
Through the support of individual donors and a long-time partner organization, Global Commission Partners (GCP), we currently provide monthly support to over 100 children across three countries: Bangladesh, India, and Myanmar. This support is $25 per child per month at minimum, and is targeted toward orphans and children from very low-income families. For non-orphans, monthly support benefits their entire family, enabling the family to keep the child at home instead of sending them away to a relative or orphanage. As such, we often refer to child sponsorship as “family sponsorship.”
We recognize that in limited cases, well-run orphanages provide a vital last resort for true orphans.
They can also serve as engines of upward economic mobility by housing non-orphans temporarily, so they can live closer to higher-quality educational institutions and obtain an education that will open more doors of opportunity. This has been especially important in Myanmar as the war continues, and more young people become orphans. However, extensive research indicates that children flourish best in families, and that orphanages—often called children’s homes in southern Asia—should be a temporary and last resort. Children belong in families whenever safely possible, and so we seek to prioritize a family sponsorship model that uplifts entire families and communities, preventing the need for children to be institutionalized or become child laborers.
Through the support of individual donors and a long-time partner organization, Global Commission Partners (GCP), we currently provide monthly support to over 100 children across three countries: Bangladesh, India, and Myanmar.
Pursuing His Dream of Becoming A Doctor
Samir is a young man in northern Bangladesh who recently graduated from our family sponsorship program.
When Samir was young, his father died of a stroke because there was no nearby hospital to treat him. His mother is a day laborer who lived hand-to-mouth. He has a sister and two brothers, one of whom is disabled. The monthly $25 his family began receiving when he was 10 allowed Samir and his siblings to stay at home with their mother, while also receiving an education. Even at 10, Samir’s dream was to become a doctor, so he could provide the kind of help to others that his father never received. Now, at 18, he is in his first year of higher education, on his way to that goal! After seven and a half years, his support is ending, and will be passed on to another child and family. Samir’s final yearly report highlights how this support has and will continue to impact him and his family’s life:
“Samir is a very devoted young man in his church. He enjoys participating in various church activities and is spiritually growing with the guidance of the elders and the pastor. As a regular member of the church’s youth group, he prays actively every day and reads the Scriptures with his family. Last year, he felt anxious about his board examination and prayed extensively for a good result. His hard work and faith have helped him achieve his prayers.
He has become even more attentive to his studies now that he is in college, as his subjects have become more challenging. Since his older brother has special needs, he does his best to help him whenever he can. By the grace of God, even though he does not own a house or land and lacks financial resources, he feels that God is still watching over him.
Samir is studying in HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) 2nd year of college. He told us, ‘I have started receiving tutoring for Higher Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and English, and I now understand the explanations better than before. As HSC comprises two years in college, we have to read the same subjects for two years. I got good results in the examination. My results came back very well in Bengali, English, General Maths, and ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). My teachers at college praise me a lot for being attentive in the classes. I want a good result in HSC, so that I can hope to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor.’
On the day the results were announced, he was overjoyed to learn about his success and expressed his gratitude to the Lord for His kindness and support. Samir celebrated with a thanksgiving service at church with his family. He is grateful to God for the blessings he receives through the supporters. He asks for prayers for his family, especially for his disabled brother, and for his studies. Samir hopes that you will pray for him so that he can work diligently and achieve his goal of becoming a doctor soon.”
You Make This Possible!
In total, over the years we sponsored Samir at $25 per month, we sent $1,950.
This allowed him to stay in school instead of becoming a child laborer. It allowed him to stay in his community, where he could help his mother care for his siblings while growing up in the love and care of his family. He’s become an active member of his church, and a young man who is highly motivated to give back to his community. He is doing much with little.
Samir is just one of several hundred children who have been supported by HB through Family & Child Sponsorship. There are thousands of other children who have received educational support, medical care, rescue from trafficking, and so much more through our local leaders.
