Children of Harvest Bridge

This month we are highlighting the children of Harvest Bridge. Because of your generosity, over 100 children in Bangladesh, India, and Myanmar are supported monthly. In some cases, this means supporting children who live in a children’s home, where they are provided personalized care, food, shelter, and education. Other children are able to continue living with their families by providing financial assistance for their education. Throughout South Asia, children attend Vacation Bible School and educational programs led by Harvest Bridge leaders. Many are even given a Bible of their own. Through unconditional love, emotional and spiritual support, and tangible help, they are shown the love of Jesus. Hear more stories from our children’s ministry on our podcast—this month’s episode releases next week!

The ministry leaders came alongside children in their communities in specific ways in 2024 to provide healing and hope:

  • 80 toddlers were provided with weekly milk packets to supplement their diet in India.
  • 114 girls were rescued from human trafficking in Bangladesh.
  • 250 children were given clothes, food, and educational supplies after floods in Nepal, allowing them to go back to school instead of being forced to drop out.
  • 450 children and young adults attended discipleship programs in Bhutan.
  • 565 children attended afterschool programs in India and the Andaman Islands.
  • 1,156 children attended VBS in India and the Andaman Islands.

Hundreds of children received medical care through vaccinations, medical camps, and emergency care during severe illness.

Children’s Ministry in Myanmar

In all of these cases, Harvest Bridge’s local leaders identified the needs in their communities and invited Harvest Bridge to be a part of their work. Everyday, children’s ministries are growing as these faithful leaders find new ways to protect and support children. For example, Priya*, the leader of the Gypsy and Tribal Empowerment (GATE) ministry in India, recognized the need for a program on “safe touch” with the children in gypsy and tribal communities. Your support made this program possible.

Children are especially vulnerable in Myanmar. The violence of the country’s civil war continues to increase, including recent bombings of schools and forced conscription of teens to serve in the military. Children there also face daily challenges with poverty and disease, as well as the ongoing impacts of the devastating earthquake in March. In 2024, 210 children and their guardians in Myanmar were evacuated from war zones. 132 of those children received crucial medical care for illnesses developed while living in the jungle, after fleeing the junta.

Your support also provided for dengue fever vaccines to protect 54 children from this painful illness. A children’s home was equipped with solar panels that provided electricity during the frequent blackouts. The ministry leaders of Harvest Bridge in Myanmar are doing everything they can to protect and encourage children and teenagers, providing them with hope for their future. Your help this year has been indispensable.

Children’s Prayer Requests

This month, we would like to share prayer requests from the children and teens of Myanmar. We invite you to join us in praying for them:

“The trip we had last year was one of the riskiest times because the warfare was getting near to us. So, we moved to [another town] as soon as we could, which saved us from the war. The local people brought a bunch of vegetables, a bowl of rice, and daily use items for us. Please pray for health and a happy long life.” —Khual*, 17 year old boy

“Pray for those who had to run away from their hometown or village.” —Kim*, 7 year old girl

“Pray for my life and studies, since there is a conscription law under the government. I do not want to be part of it, but it seems very difficult unless I go abroad. Please pray for me to finish my studies and go abroad for safety and my future.” —Piang*, 19 year old boy

“Please pray for God’s guidance for my dreams. I want to become a doctor.” —Nem*, 15 year old girl

“Pray that I would go to school every day regularly without hearing gunshots and bombs, to be able to complete a year of school without any problems and to live according to God’s will every day.” —Mung*, 16 year old boy

“Pray for my future. I have no idea what to do next due to the current crisis.” —Thang*, 18 year old boy

“Because of the ongoing war, the college is closed in our city, and I was not able to continue my education. Due to the conscription law, I had to leave our home and now I am looking for a better future. Please pray that God will give me more wisdom in my life as I leave the children’s home, and for our country to recover quickly.” —Niang*, 20 year old girl who we helped escape the country recently

*Names changed for security

Thank You

Thank you for your prayers and your support for the children of Harvest Bridge. We are especially excited to share that two churches here in the United States will be supporting the children in Myanmar as a part of their Vacation Bible Schools this summer. If you know of a church that would like to learn more about how to partner with Harvest Bridge as a congregation, we would love to share more information with you! For all of your support and prayers, thank you. It is making a difference.

“Thank you for your support. Your generosity has given me an openness and a future, and your support means more than words can express.” —Sung*, 16 year old girl, Myanmar
