Harvest Bridge

Summer Giving Match

Alan Rice ·

Hello! I'm Alan Rice, a retired professor of engineering and a Harvest Bridge board member for six years. Below I'd like to tell you about some of the leaders I have met, who represent the quality of Harvest Bridge’s partners.

But first, I’m excited to announce that this summer we have an opportunity to amplify the work of Christian missionaries in South Asia. Several generous Christians who believe in the work of Harvest Bridge have offered to match donations during a campaign this summer, up to $15,000. That means up to $30,000 can be raised between now and July 20th.

To double the impact of your gift, please give below, or write Summer 2020 Match on the memo line of your check and designate the amount above your normal giving that is being contributed toward the match. You can send it here:

P.O. Box 284

Grove City PA 16127

All Summer 2020 Match donations postmarked on or before July 20th will be included, until our goal is reached. Only donations designated to the match will be doubled. We need your help to ensure that the full $15,000 is matched!

We understand how difficult this time has been for so many, and we understand if you are unable to give. Please join us in prayer for the full amount to be raised.

I support Harvest Bridge because I have become acquainted personally with several of its leaders in South Asia, and know them to be experienced, wise, and faithful to the Lord. I support them because HB increases the effectiveness of these capable local Christians who work in people groups with few or no Christian congregations. With relatively small amounts of assistance, local pastors and evangelists can travel further to reach more people with Christ's saving message, and establish churches in these groups.

In 2015, my wife Martha and I traveled to southern India to work with Pastor James, HB’s India coordinator, to present a one-week conference for pastors and their wives. About 300 pastors and 40 women came from all over the country, and we presented lessons in six Indian languages.

Pastor James is a church planter who helped found 17 daughter churches in his region. He aims to encourage pastors in their difficult work. “You will see that I live simply," he said. "I don't wear shoes. Rich pastors wear shoes. Dressing this way, people are not afraid to come and talk to me." He observes the integrity of others too, and remains on guard against pastors seeking to advance themselves rather than the Kingdom of God.

Space prevents me from sharing in detail about others I’ve met, like Dr. Lee who trains church planters in northern India, or the faithful young entrepreneur who, coached by HB's co-founder Dr. Tim Mech, has built a small business which is earning income to further his family’s ministry.

Besides these leaders I have met, local pastors in South Asia have an enormous impact on their communities because of your support of HB. It enables missionaries like Pastor Pan*, one of our Myanmar coordinators, to write:

“Your partnership is vital to our ministry. I, on behalf of our partners in Myanmar, would like to say a heartfelt thanks to you and all the donors for helping us do God’s ministry...It is the joy of being where the Lord wants us to be, no matter the price or the circumstances. It is the joy of looking back and seeing everything that He is doing. It makes sense and has value because it is the cause of Christ, for His eternal message. Thousands of villages in Myanmar are still without a fellowship of believers. With much prayer, our missionaries have gone to reach the unreached villages and communities and share the life-giving Word of God with them. We have been seeing a great harvest. Thank you so much for your faithful support. Without you, we cannot accomplish what the Lord has called us to do!”

National lockdowns imposed due to COVID-19 have severely limited the ability of most people in South Asia to earn their daily bread, so your gift this summer will be especially effective in equipping our partners to continue serving the poor and unreached as front-line responders in this crisis.

Thank you for standing with Harvest Bridge and South Asian Christians as they sow life-giving seeds, transforming their communities and nations with the love of Jesus!

Grateful for your participation in this ministry,

Alan W. Rice, Board Member
