Dreams That Change Lives
Jonas Salk, who developed the polio vaccine, reportedly said, “I have dreams, and I have nightmares. I overcame the nightmares because of my dreams.”
It is profoundly true that we overcome fear and darkness by dreaming about, and working toward, something beautiful. Dreams open our eyes to the hope on the other side of tragedy, giving us vision, courage, and even joy.
When following Christ, we can dream boldly. We know there is no limit to God’s love and to what God can accomplish through the Holy Spirit within us! Paul joyfully proclaimed, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
Harvest Bridge is intensely practical, but it is fueled by dreams of transformation. We work in dark places in order to bring light. Like a sculptor who sees the finished statue in the coarse stone, we endeavor to look past the darkness to what Scripture teaches us God wishes to do, and work toward this vision.
By God’s grace, our dreams have produced fruit.
Through our Asian partners, children in poverty who once did not dare to dream now go to school proudly and speak excitedly about their dreams of becoming engineers or teachers or doctors.
Formerly homeless families thank us for giving them a new start; they show us their homes and proudly tell us about the respectable jobs that pay their bills.
People who had been trapped in superstitious fear now stand tall, secure in God’s love!
We have a record that most organizations ten times our size would be proud of. In 2016 alone, our Asian partners enrolled 1,400 children in school, baptized 3,800 people, provided emergency relief to 12,000 people, and much, much more.
I’m thankful for this, but frankly I am much more excited about what is still to come!
In one of Christ’s parables, a woman folds a little leaven into a huge batch of flour. The effect of the leaven starts small but progresses exponentially, until the entire batch is leavened.
I believe what we have seen so far in Asia is simply the initial stage of the leaven’s work. All that God has accomplished through Harvest Bridge until now is just the beginning of what God wants to do, can do, and will do, if we are faithful.
Our Asian partners have the experience and passion they need to help many more people escape poverty, find hope, and discover the love of Christ, but there are limits to what they can do with the amount of funds we have been able to provide. This is why your help is important to us, especially now.
Ultimately, our capacity to fulfill God’s purposes – which inspire our dreams – depends on you, our donors.
Dreams grow when we believe in them and invest in them.
Thank you for investing in the dreams of Harvest Bridge through your encouragement, prayers, and financial support! In the meantime, may God continue to inspire and guide your own cherished dreams, and bless you with their fulfillment.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
